Customers still running SQL Server 2014 workloads will no longer receive security updates after 9 July 2024 unless they purchase the Extended Security Updates (ESU), or move the workload in Azure, where the ESU will be included for free.

Partners should review their customer’s SQL Server workloads. Customers that are still running the 2014 version should look to upgrade to a later supported version or an alternative solution such as an Azure SQL PaaS offering.

Otherwise, if they are unable to upgrade at this time, then look to either move them into Azure IaaS or acquire the ESU so that they can continue to receive security updates.
