Starting October 15, 2024, Microsoft will enforce mandatory multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all Azure users. This significant update aims to enhance security and protect against unauthorized access. MFA will be required for signing into the Azure portal, Microsoft Entra admin center, and Intune admin center.

This initiative is part of Microsoft’s broader effort to strengthen security across its services, driven by the rising frequency and sophistication of cyberattacks. By implementing MFA, Microsoft aims to reduce the risk of account compromises and data breaches, helping organisations comply with various security standards and regulations.

Organisations are encouraged to enable MFA for their users by the deadline to ensure uninterrupted access. If unable to meet the deadline, they can apply to postpone enforcement. This proactive step underscores Microsoft’s commitment to a secure digital environment for all Azure users.
