Jack Morrison lives big and tries everything. He’s a trivia master, scuba diver, voice‑over artist, Dungeons & Dragons enthusiast… and, somewhere in between all of that, one of our Dicker Data Telco Business Managers.
As it turns out, that “try everything” mindset is exactly how he ended up here.
“I’ve been working in distribution for pretty much 13 years, basically ever since I left uni. I started at a smaller distributor in North Sydney doing voice, phone systems, telco, and worked my way up from project manager to General Manager over about 10 years. I’d known Jason Hall and Simon Banks for years because we were competitors, and after I was made redundant, Jason and I coincidentally booked the same liveaboard dive trip out of Cairns. That piece of serendipity was how it started.”
One accidental dive trip later, Jack was on board, which makes sense, given that nothing about his career path has been accidental so far.
“I studied a Bachelor of Communication majoring in Journalism, a Master of Politics and Public Policy, worked for the police for a period, and now I’m studying a Bachelor of Marine Science. I’ve got three degrees and I work in an industry related to none of them but that’s okay. I like learning.”
That curiosity carries straight into how Jack approaches his role at Dicker Data.
“I manage six vendors, and my job is to work hand‑in‑hand with them to make sure they’re represented properly within the Dicker Data partner ecosystem. That covers go‑to‑market strategy, sales engagement plans, incentives, and how we engage partners. Essentially, it’s supporting vendors strategically and helping the broader business understand how this new area helps grow everything else.”
That internal education is critical, because what Dicker Data is doing in telco is genuinely different.
“No other distributor in Australia has really done telco the way we are. What we’re doing is letting partners build their own telco solutions with the vendors that make sense to them. They can mix and match, choose commission or resale, whatever works best for their business and their customers.”
And for Jack, the real impact shows up when partners see how naturally telco fits into what they’re already doing.
“We have a fantastic selection of vendors that give partners more choice than they’ve ever had with a single distributor. Selling telco is a natural extension of the work partners are already doing. Their customers are already buying internet, mobiles, phones and voice systems; this just helps partners capture more value from conversations they’re already having. It makes them stickier, better for their customers, and helps elevate their own businesses.”
That partner‑first approach is also what Jack values most about working at Dicker Data.
“The people are genuinely great, but what I really love is that Dicker Data is a large Australian company that’s grown out of Australia and is still very much an ANZ business.”
It’s a perspective shaped by experience, and one that carries into the advice he gives others.
“You don’t need to know what you want to do, I still don’t know what I want to do. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a palaeontologist, and as an adult, my dream job became figuring out how to work while diving with sharks and coral reefs. My biggest advice is don’t put work first. Work is there to support your life. Understand why you’re working, because if you don’t know your ‘why’, it’s going to be a very hard slog.”
That philosophy also explains why Jack’s life outside work is anything but quiet.
“I go to trivia and sometimes host it. I love scuba diving with sharks, exploring reefs, and just the ocean in general. I play Dungeons and Dragons, do voice‑over work, and I’m writing a book. If something sounds interesting, I’ll try it. Not everything is fun, but I like finding out.”
So yes, Jack Morrison is a trivia master, scuba diver, voice‑over artist, lifelong learner… and a Dicker Data Telco Business Manager. Turns out living big and trying everything isn’t a distraction from the job, it’s exactly what makes him so good at it.
