Meet the Team: Neil Martin - Pre-Sales Engineer

Neil Martin brings a wealth of technology experience and a practical, people-focused approach to his role at Dicker Data. In this Meet the Team profile, he reflects on the journey that brought him here, shares his advice for partners and explains what he values about being part of the team.

"I started around 2014 or 2015. After completing my bachelor's in computer engineering, I got my first role as an infrastructure engineer at a MedTech company in Melbourne. From there, I moved into solution architecture, customer success and pre-sales roles, demonstrating the value of infrastructure solutions to customers, channel partners and distribution partners."

That experience gave him a strong foundation for his work with Commvault.

"With Commvault, my storage experience has been really valuable. It has been exciting to see the industry progress from before AI to how rapidly things are changing now."

For partners navigating AI, Neil says strong governance is essential.

"The number one piece of advice for partners would be to avoid unauthorised access to AI tools or agents and not rely on workflow automation without understanding the permissions those tools have. Be very cautious about what you feed LLM chatbots and models, because there have been cases where sensitive information has been leaked."

Beyond managing risk, partners also need a practical path to stronger cyber resilience.

"Building cyber resilience isn't a one-click solution; it's an entire strategy. With Commvault and Dicker Data, we assess the customer's environment, identify the key workloads they want to protect and make sure they are protected in an air-gapped manner."

For Neil, the partnership also makes that strategy easier to put into practice.

"With Dicker Data and Commvault, it's about providing a holistic solution and outlining the right steps a partner can take to prepare for a disaster in a customer's environment. Commvault's SaaS-based solutions do not require upfront fees, commitments or hardware, so partners can sign up and start consuming them."

When Neil joined Dicker Data, the people made an immediate impression.

"I really love the culture at Dicker Data. From my first day, the team was friendly and supportive. As I've travelled across Australia, I've met more people from the Dicker Data team and they have always been helpful."

Outside work, Neil enjoys keeping active and trying new things.

"I go to the gym and enjoy cycling, hiking and, more recently, rock climbing. I also enjoy video games, but I'm trying to spend more time exploring outdoor hobbies."

Whether he is helping partners build cyber resilience or taking on a new outdoor challenge, Neil brings the same curiosity and collaborative mindset to what comes next.
