Dicker Data & Sektor: Building the Next Chapter of Growth Together

The recently announced acquisition of Sektor Group marks an important next step in Dicker Data’s growth, bringing together two established technology distribution businesses with complementary capabilities, vendor relationships and partner communities.

More than simply adding scale, the acquisition creates opportunities to expand the technologies and capabilities available to our partners across Australia and New Zealand, while establishing an operational platform for Dicker Data’s longer-term ambitions in Asia.

Why Sektor?

Finding the right business was always going to be about more than geographic expansion or adding another portfolio of vendors.

Sektor has built an established specialist distribution business across Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Malaysia, with approximately 230 employees and deep capabilities across point-of-sale (POS), enterprise mobility, cybersecurity, physical security and specialised technology solutions.

Importantly, there is limited overlap between the two organisations’ vendor portfolios. In a number of areas, the businesses are highly complementary. One example is Check Point, which Dicker Data distributes in Australia and Sektor distributes in New Zealand.

That complementarity creates an opportunity over time to bring together the respective strengths of both businesses and provide partners with access to a broader range of technologies and capabilities.

Just as importantly, there is a strong cultural fit.

For Dicker Data, growth has always been underpinned by local people, local expertise and a deep understanding of the markets in which we operate. That same principle was important when considering how we expand beyond Australia and New Zealand.

We weren’t looking to acquire a business simply because it provided a way into new markets. We wanted to find an organisation that had built strong relationships with its partners and vendors and shared a similar approach to doing business.

We believe we’ve found that in Sektor.

New opportunities for our partners

The acquisition significantly broadens the specialist technology capabilities available across the combined businesses.

In particular, Sektor brings established expertise in POS and enterprise mobility, areas in which Dicker Data has historically had more limited participation.
These technologies play an increasingly important role in environments including retail, logistics, warehousing and other commercial settings, spanning technologies such as barcode scanning, machine vision, digital displays and associated software platforms.

For existing Dicker Data partners, this creates an opportunity to access specialist technologies and capabilities that have traditionally sat outside our core portfolio.
There is opportunity in the other direction too. Sektor has its own established reseller ecosystem, creating the potential to introduce Dicker Data’s much broader technology portfolio to new partner communities.

Ultimately, that is what makes the combination compelling - two complementary portfolios and partner communities, with the opportunity to create more value for vendors and partners on both sides.

A platform for growth in Asia

Sektor also brings another important dimension to Dicker Data’s long-term strategy: established operations in South-East Asia.

Through Sektor, the combined business will have existing operations in Thailand and Malaysia, supported by approximately 60 employees across the two countries.

That provides Dicker Data with something particularly valuable as we pursue our regional ambitions: people on the ground who already understand their markets, customers, partners and vendors.

We know from our experience in Australia and New Zealand that technology distribution is fundamentally a local business. Relationships matter. Market dynamics differ. What works in one country cannot simply be replicated unchanged in another.

Our approach to Asia will follow the same philosophy. Sektor gives us an established base from which future opportunities can be considered, supported by local capability and market knowledge.

As Fiona Brown, Dicker Data’s Executive Chair and Managing Director, said when the acquisition was announced:

“Sektor has built a fantastic specialist business, and Dicker Data brings the scale, relationships and appetite to invest behind it.”

The combination provides an established platform from which to pursue Dicker Data’s broader regional expansion strategy.

Building on what already works

Dicker Data has considerable experience bringing businesses together, but every acquisition is different.

The objective is not to change the things that have made Sektor successful. It is to understand them, preserve the strengths of the business and identify where Dicker Data’s scale and capabilities can help unlock further growth.

That includes the strength of Sektor’s people and leadership, its specialist expertise, vendor relationships and the partner community the team has built.
For our partners and vendors, our focus will be on making the evolution of the relationship between the two businesses as smooth as possible.

There will be more to share as we move forward, but what makes this opportunity exciting is the foundation already in place: two highly complementary businesses, strong people, expanded capabilities and a shared commitment to supporting the technology channel.

We’re looking forward to what we can build together in partnership with our combined partner and vendor ecosystem.

What happens on 2nd November 2026?

The acquisition is expected to complete on 2 November 2026. From that date, it will be business as usual for both Dicker Data and Sektor until advised otherwise.

Sektor brands and products will continue to be available through Sektor. Dicker Data partners with an immediate need to purchase Sektor products will need to establish a trading account with Sektor by completing a reseller application.

As the working relationship between the two businesses evolves, we will keep our partners updated on any changes to purchasing arrangements and new opportunities that become available.
