Introducing Adam Smith, one of the newest members of our Dicker Data family! As our Microsoft Modern Work, Security, and AI Lead, Adam plays a pivotal role in sales and business development, setting strategies and developing programs to help our partners understand the Microsoft market opportunities.
“I set the strategy for our modern work team and the direction and focuses that we have. So, we work quite closely with Microsoft to determine direction and focus areas. It’s also making sure that our people and I are available for partners in the areas that they need help with."
Adam spent the early years of his career working for retail giants like Myer and David Jones, climbing the ladder into sales and leadership roles. He then switched gears entirely, following his passion for computers, which began at a young age.
“I've got a twin brother, and we used to have computers all the way through from the Atari 2600, which a lot of younger people would never have heard of, through to PCs and things like that.”
After taking a year off to complete training and certifications, Adam secured a position at an MSP in Melbourne, starting out as their Technical Manager and eventually transitioned to the role of Sales Manager. After 14 years Adam ventured into the channel, and 7 years later, now founds himself at Dicker Data. A move he says has allowed him to collaborate more closely with partners.
"I love working hands on with partners. I want to help partners understand, at a business level, that there are certain things that they can do to help increase the profitability of their business, through what they sell and how they sell it, helping them grow their business in a sustainable way."
Adam is enjoying his time here at Dicker Data and is urging partners to leverage our Microsoft team.
“We have a really great team here who work closely together. I think we're well positioned with the skill and the breadth of knowledge in the team. You don't know what you don't know. People need to understand that help is available. Our team has the skills and knowledge to assist. Partners can benefit from creating partnerships, especially in distribution and logistics. It’s a two-way street where both sides benefit. Partners can rely on us for support in sales, technical aspects, and go-to-market strategies to grow their businesses.”
Now, what ever happened to Adam’s twin brother? Did he end up in IT too?
“He's a programmer now. I can't programme to save myself, I come from a network background. I'm the IT support for mum and dad and when they can’t reach me, they usually call him. Unfortunately, he goes and stuffs it all up and I have to fix it.”
