Meet the Team: Shaniece Layla - Warehouse Team Captain

By day, Shaniece Layla leads the warehouse floor at Dicker Data. By night (and weekends), she’s taking on the toughest competition in women’s rugby league. As Warehouse Team Captain and a professional NRLW player, Shaniece brings leadership, resilience and team-first energy to everything she does.

Originally from New Zealand, Shaniece moved to Australia almost three years ago to pursue greater opportunities in rugby league.

“When we moved, it was for rugby league. I was doing different jobs along the way, and then I found myself here at Dicker Data and it’s been such a good move.”

That move quickly turned into something bigger than expected. What began in a small warehouse day‑shift team of five, including Shaniece, her sister and her niece, has since grown into a 24-person operation.

“We were the first people on day shift in the new warehouse. We literally helped set everything up. Watching it grow from five people to where we are now has been crazy, but also such a blessing.”

Family plays a huge role in Shaniece’s life, both inside and outside of work. Several members of her family work alongside her at Dicker Data, creating a tight-knit, supportive environment that mirrors the team culture she values in sport. A big part of that culture, she says, comes down to leadership and trust.

“Our manager Billy Hatzinikolis has been incredible. He looks after us, treats us well, and really believes in people growing into bigger roles. I’ve learned so much from him, not just about work, but about how to lead and support others.”

Starting out by learning every role on the floor, picking, scanning, packing and dispatch, gave Shaniece a deep understanding of warehouse operations and made her a natural leader as the team expanded. Over time, she was officially appointed Day Shift Captain.

Leadership, she says, comes naturally thanks to her sporting background.

“I’ve always had captaincy roles in sport, so I understand communication, pressure and how important culture is. That carries over into work, especially during peak periods like Christmas, when things get hectic and everyone needs support.”

Outside the warehouse, Shaniece has signed with the Wests Tigers for the upcoming 2026 NRLW season and has represented the New Zealand national team. Balancing elite sport with full-time work isn’t easy, but flexibility and understanding from her team make it possible.

“My days are full. Work, training, gym, home, sleep, then repeat. But having support at work makes a massive difference.”

Her personal motto keeps her motivated both on and off the field:

“While you’re not training, someone else is.”

For Shaniece, it’s a reminder that growth comes from consistency, effort and showing up, whether that’s for your team, your family or yourself. And with her passion, drive and leadership, it’s clear Shaniece Layla is doing all three, every single day.
