Meet the Team: Andy Taylor - DAS State Sales Manager

Keen to get out on the road and tackle a new challenge, Andy Taylor has built his career on momentum, adaptability, and getting the job done, whether that’s leading a branch, growing a region, or working towards his next off-road adventure. 

“I am originally from the UK and I started my career in distribution in electrical wholesale. I started from the bottom and then moved into sales. With some time in sales, I eventually ended up running my own branch. I spent 10 years in the electrical industry before deciding to make a crazy life choice and move to Australia. In 2019, I joined Hills as a Sales Team Leader and have worked my way up to my current position of Dicker Data Access and Surveillance (DAS) State Manager for Victoria and Tasmania.” 

Now leading the Victorian and Tasmanian DAS regions, Andy focuses on driving operational excellence, strengthening customer relationships, and enabling his teams to deliver consistent value across every touchpoint. 

“I have been in my State Manager role since 2021. I currently oversee branch operations, sales teams, and customer development. I also have the privilege to lead fantastic teams across both Victoria and Tasmania. Our goals are to deliver a seamless service to our customer base, build strong relationships with our stakeholders, and offer the best and most leading-edge product ranges to the security industry.” 

Andy places strong importance on vendor relationships, recognising their role in helping his team stay informed, responsive, and competitive in a fast-moving market. 

“We have excellent relationships with our vendors. I was lucky enough to be invited to visit the factory and headquarters of one of our vendors in China, which was an amazing experience I will never forget. It is critical for us to maintain these strong relationships so we can deliver important updates to our vendors and partners and be able to successfully offer winning solutions.” 

Internally, Andy values the collaborative culture within DAS, where cross-team alignment and strong communication help drive better outcomes for customers and partners alike. 

“It is one big happy family! The way the business is structured enables us to have constant communication between all of our business units. This directly benefits my teams, and in turn benefits the customers, vendors and partners. We’re able to analyse BOMs, answer technical questions and offer support for all of our product offerings in lightning-fast turnarounds. From dealing with our configuration department to dealing with the teams in the warehouse, we have transparency and camaraderie, which means we can get the job done, every time.” 

With a role that continues to evolve daily, Andy embraces variety and encourages others to take ownership, contribute ideas, and follow through on their commitments, no matter where they sit in the business. 

“My job evolves every day, with no two days being the same. My advice is to earn the respect and loyalty of your direct manager. If you say you are going to do something, always deliver it and give everything you do a 100%.I encourage people to always ask questions and make your voice heard; I have had some of the best sales strategies presented by a delivery driver and a warehouse team member sharing their ideas.” 

And when he’s not leading from the front, you’ll likely find Andy doing exactly that, off the beaten track. 

“In my spare time I love to go camping and 4-wheel driving with my wife and our dogs. This includes my passion project: working on our 1998 80s-series Land Cruiser 4-wheel drive. I am also very social and love socialising with our customers and my team, just ask any of them.”
