Executive summary

Copilot in 30 is a new CSP-led motion that lets SMB customers get hands-on with Microsoft 365 Copilot Business... 25 users, 30 days, no strings attached upfront. For partners, it's not just a trial to hand out. It's a genuine way to find the right customers, show them real value fast, and turn that interest into paid adoption.

What is Copilot in 30?

In plain terms, Copilot in 30 is a CSP-led motion that takes the "prove it first" objection off the table. Give SMB customers a focused, no-cost way to try Microsoft 365 Copilot Business, land the right customers, let them feel the value for themselves over 30 days, then convert with intent once they're onboard.

The partner opportunity

Talk to any SMB right now and you'll hear the same mix of curiosity and hesitation about AI. Staff are already poking around with consumer AI tools on the side, IT hasn't signed off on any of it, and the budget holder isn't ready to commit to another licence they can't yet justify. That's not a lack of interest... it's a lack of a low-risk way in. That's exactly the gap partners can step into:

  • Give SMBs a real, structured way in, not a stripped-back demo, but 25 genuine Copilot Business seats they can actually put to work for 30 days.
  • Target list building smarter instead of cold-calling your whole database. Use the signals you've already got:
    1. ASPX
    2. CloudAscent
    3. Dicker Data Insights Dashboard
  • Point the trial at a handful of high-value scenarios, rather than handing over licences and hoping something sticks.
  • Use what happens during the 30 days, adoption, real outcomes, the odd "aha" moment, to build the case for converting to paid Copilot Business.
  • Build the services layer around it: readiness, governance, training, prompt coaching, reporting, expansion planning. That's where the real margin sits, not in the licence itself.

JX angle for partners

"The best partners won't package this as a free licence. They'll package it as a 30-day managed AI adoption sprint."

Why this matters now

We've all had this exact conversation. The customer is interested in AI and Copilot, you can see the opportunity sitting right there... and then it stalls. They want to feel the value before they commit to paid licences, especially with finance teams already keeping a close eye on subscription spend.

That's exactly the gap Copilot in 30 closes. From 1 August 2026, there's a new 25-user Microsoft 365 Copilot Business trial, running as a guided 30-day evaluation built for SMBs. It's a genuine way to take customers from curious to convinced, without asking them to make the leap on day one.

For MSPs, this one lands because it speaks to something already happening: teams are experimenting with AI whether IT knows about it or not. Copilot in 30 gives you a secure, governed Microsoft 365-aligned option to put in front of customers instead of some unmanaged tool they found themselves... and it opens up a real services conversation around readiness, enablement, adoption, security and outcomes that are actually measurable.

Suggested partner positioning

The pitch changes depending on who's in the room, so here's how I'd frame it for each audience:

  • For customers: “Try Microsoft 365 Copilot Business with a guided 30-day plan, not a random pilot.”
  • For business owners: “Identify where Copilot saves time combating time thieves in your business processes, improve quality outcomes and create better employee experience.”
  • For IT leaders: “Evaluate AI inside the Microsoft 365 security and compliance boundary instead of adding another unmanaged tool.”
  • For MSPs: “Turn AI interest into a structured sales and services motion.”

What a top 1% partner would do

Most partners will run this as a trial. A top 1% partner will run it as a business... here's what that actually looks like:

  • Build a named “Copilot in 30 Managed Sprint” offer with a fixed agenda, readiness checklist, weekly nudges, success reporting and conversion workshop.
  • Use their PSA or CRM to flag eligible customers from renewals, Copilot-eligible seats, Business Standard or Business Premium base, and no paid Copilot licences.
  • Create a simple executive scorecard: adoption, active users, top use cases, time saved examples, risks, expansion recommendation and next step offer.
  • Pair Copilot in 30 with secure AI governance: data permissions, sharing hygiene, sensitivity labels, Teams and SharePoint readiness, and user guidance.

Quick steps to move from trial to a paid subscription

Moving from trial to a paid subscription is straightforward when it's planned ahead of the trial's end. For the full walkthrough, including renewal timing and ordering steps, see the Copilot in 30 Partner Playbook (a dedicated landing page with the detailed guide will follow this article).

A practical 30-day customer journey

#

Stage

Partner action

1

Customer Targeting

Build a prioritised SMB list using ASPX, CloudAscent and Dicker Data insights, then agree the right users and scenarios with the customer.

2

Trial Activation

Set up the tenant, assign the 25 trial licences, and make sure users know exactly what to do on day one.

3

Adoption

Guide users through a simple weekly rhythm... Outlook, Teams, Office, then agents and next-step scenarios.

4

Value Proof

Track usage and capture real proof points... time saved, quality wins, the odd "aha" moment.

5

Conversion

Review results with the customer, agree the paid deployment, and map out the expansion plan.

Where adoption typically goes next

This is the bit that doesn't always come through in a case study, but I've seen it play out again and again with partners and customers alike: once Copilot lands with the first group of licensed users, it rarely stays contained to that group. Word gets around, and adoption starts pulling itself forward.

  • In financial services, it's often started small... a dozen users trialling Copilot for their fortnightly catch-ups. Once the rest of the business saw how much faster reports, meeting notes and follow-ups came together, the licences spread well beyond that first group without much prompting at all.
  • In healthcare, it's usually the sheer volume of long documentation that creates the opening. A customer service team using Copilot to find information buried in lengthy records saved so much time that the same approach quickly spread into HR and other departments, always designed to stay within their existing governance and compliance frameworks.
  • More broadly, across just about every industry, the pattern tends to repeat. It usually starts at the individual role level... saving time on emails, documents or meeting notes... and then evolves into something bigger, as teams start building workflow automations and agents to help their people get more done each day.

How Dicker Data can help partners move quickly

You don't have to build this motion from scratch on your own... here's where we come in:

  • Use the Dicker Data Insights Dashboard and ASPX data to identify likely Copilot opportunities and build a prioritised customer list.
  • Help partners interpret Microsoft 365 Business, Microsoft 365 Copilot Business and related CSP positioning.
  • Support partner enablement through Copilot briefings, adoption guidance and practical sales plays.
  • Help partners shape the customer conversation around secure AI adoption rather than simply “licence trial availability”.

Time for you to take action

Copilot in 30 launches 1 August, and it's a genuinely clean way to restart AI conversations with customers who've been waiting for a lower-friction entry point. The opportunity's simple: act early, target the right customers, guide the experience properly, and convert successful evaluations into paid Copilot adoption with a clear expansion plan behind it.

Dicker Data can help partners assess their Microsoft 365 customer base, navigate ASPX and insights data, and build a practical Copilot in 30 motion ahead of launch.
