Microsoft 365 Copilot Cowork is now generally available, giving Dicker Data partners a new opportunity to help customers move from AI-assisted productivity to AI-powered delegation. With Cowork, users can assign multi-step work across Microsoft 365 and connected business applications, while keeping human oversight, security and governance at the centre of adoption.

For Australian and New Zealand organisations, this is more than another Copilot feature release. It is a practical next step in how businesses can use AI to reduce manual work, improve operational consistency and give teams more time to focus on higher-value activities.

What is Microsoft 365 Copilot Cowork?

Copilot Cowork is an agentic AI capability designed to complete delegated tasks on behalf of users. Instead of simply helping draft an email or summarise a meeting, Cowork can work across apps such as Outlook, Teams, Calendar, Word, Excel and PowerPoint to plan, progress and complete more complex workflows.

Examples include preparing a customer meeting briefing, drafting follow-up communications, analysing information across multiple files, updating records or coordinating work across connected systems. The intent is simple: help employees spend less time on repetitive administration and more time on work that requires judgement, creativity and customer engagement.

Why This Matters For Partners

For Dicker Data partners, Copilot Cowork creates a clear services-led opportunity. Customers will need help understanding where Cowork fits, how to pilot it safely, how to govern usage and how to manage costs as adoption scales.

  • Readiness assessments covering Microsoft 365 Copilot licensing, identity, permissions, sensitivity labels and data governance.

  • Customer workshops to identify high-value workflows where delegated AI can reduce manual effort.

  • Pilot design, including user selection, approval points, spend controls and success measures.

  • Governance and adoption planning across security, compliance, finance and business stakeholders.

  • Ongoing optimisation to review usage, refine workflows and demonstrate measurable business value.

The Commercial Model Partners Need To Explain

Copilot Cowork introduces an important commercial shift. Customers require the appropriate Microsoft 365 Copilot user subscription licence, and Cowork usage is billed separately through Copilot Credits. This means customers should think about Cowork as having a licence foundation plus a metered usage layer based on the work performed.

That does not need to slow adoption, but it does need to be planned. Partners should encourage customers to start with controlled pilots, define the use cases that matter most, set budget limits and monitor usage before scaling more broadly.

To understand that specific requirements to obtain, manage, control and invoice Cowork usage, please join our Onpoint session on Wednesday 1st July (11am AU / 1pm NZ); or alternatively watch this session on demand.

Governance Comes First

As customers move from AI assistance to AI delegation, governance becomes critical. Cowork is designed to operate within the Microsoft 365 trust boundary, using existing identity, compliance and enterprise data protection controls. Prompts, outputs and created content are subject to Microsoft Purview controls, helping organisations manage risk while exploring new productivity scenarios.

For ANZ customers, partners should make governance part of the first conversation. This includes reviewing sensitivity labels, data sharing posture, audit requirements, retention policies, administrator controls and any data residency considerations before enabling broader usage.

How Dicker Data Can Help

Dicker Data is helping partners take Copilot Cowork to market with the right balance of commercial clarity, technical readiness and customer-friendly messaging. Our Microsoft Modern Work and Security team can support partners with positioning, readiness conversations, pilot planning and guidance on how Cowork fits alongside Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio and Power Automate.

Partners should use this announcement as a reason to re-engage customers already exploring Microsoft 365 Copilot, especially those looking to move beyond individual productivity gains and into repeatable business process improvement.
