On the waitlist for the Elitebook 840? We have the perfect solution

If you’re in the market for an HP Elitebook 840, you may be aware that there’s currently a wait on stock. As the pandemic has progressed, companies are experiencing an increased demand for higher computational and graphics power in portable devices. After all, if you’re performing most work tasks at home rather than at the office, it makes sense that you will need powerful performance in your laptop or portable workstation.

Many of our customers have expressed that they want to invest in a workable alternative without losing the Elitebook’s performance and portability. Enter the ZBook Firefly 14 G8. With comparable specs and fantastic performance to boot, the Firefly has been delighting Dicker Data clients and supporting them to fulfill their company’s tech requirements. As HP’s thinnest and lightest ZBook ever, it provides true mobility for people who want to push the typical PC past its breaking point. With the ability to review work and manage projects anywhere, plus impressively long battery life, the ZBook Firefly is the perfect solution for companies wanting to equip their staff for long days off-site.

In this post, we’re going to look at everything you need to know about the Firefly and how it can be an excellent solution if your company is requiring portable workstations — and fast.

ZBook Firefly 14 G8 vs. the Elitebook 840: the similarities

First things first, here is everything our clients love about the Elitebook 840 that they can find within the Firefly 14 G8. One of the most-loved features of the Elitebook was that it was incredibly thin and light, making it an excellent option for staff needing to transport their device frequently. The Firefly is currently marketed as HP’s thinnest and lightest ZBook ever — and at less than 1.5kg, it holds its own next to the Elitebook.

In terms of performance, you won’t be losing out at all. The Firefly carries an 11th generation Intel Quad-core i9 processor, allowing you to quickly power through projects and heavy workloads. These top-of-the-line Intel processors, combined with a NVIDIA® Quadro graphics card, will enable you to open large files and run apps simultaneously for easy multitasking and better productivity.

Now, we should mention that while the Firefly has more than enough grunt for a graphic designer or power user, if you require a top-of-the-line graphics card or over 32GB ram, you might need to consider an alternative. However, all in all, the Firefly is an excellent entry-level workstation.

Next up — privacy. This has been a big selling point for the Elitebook range. Thankfully, the Firefly doesn’t disappoint, with HP Sure View Reflect privacy mode limiting its display viewing angles to combat ‘visual hacking’ — an essential feature for anyone wishing to take their work out of the office. You’ll also have excellent defence against firmware and malware attacks with HP Sure Start, HP Sure Sense and HP Tamper Lock intrusion detection built in.

ZBook Firefly 14 G8 vs. the Elitebook 840: the differences

When comparing the Firefly and the Eliteobok, the most notable difference is that the Firefly is a mobile workstation, and the Elitebook is a standard laptop. This means, when you purchase a Firefly, you’re buying a more powerful machine with the ability to perform more intense processes for a very similar price tag.

One of the best features about the ZBook is that it contains a NVIDIA® Quadro graphics card, which offers large memory, optimised drivers and certification for over 100 professional applications. It has a dazzling DreamColour 400 nit screen, coupled with an anti-glare display, perfect for working outside. You also have the option of selecting a 4K screen — a feature that is not currently available in the Elitebook range.

Summing it up

The Firefly is an absolutely beautiful, top of the range device. It’s been rigorously tested to ensure you’re receiving a good amount of power in a form factor that’s light in your bag and on your wallet. It’s a fantastic option if you’re in the market for an Elitebook, but you’re not prepared to wait for stock.

In case you missed them, here are the main points that we’ve covered in this post:

  • Each machine is perfect for transporting from the office to home as they’re both thin and lightweight
  • Both machines have similar features, including 4G LTE connectivity and advanced privacy options, with a similar price tag, making the Firefly a perfect alternative to the Elitebook 840
  • The Firefly edges out the Elitebook in terms of performance, with excellent features such as its NVIDIA® Quadro graphics card.
