How do I price and scope VDC deals?

Choose a plan: Express, Flex, or Premium.

Price per person: Licensing is based on the number of Microsoft 365 users you protect.

Include Entra ID fairly: You can protect up to 3x as many enabled Entra ID member users as your protected Microsoft 365 user count (when all M365 users are backed up), under Veeam’s Fair Use Policy.

Add services if needed (partner-delivered): data migration, compliance-ready reporting and periodic recovery tests (these are implementation services, not part of the Veeam plan itself).

What's the difference between VVAR and VCSP programs?

VVAR (Veeam Authorized Reseller) is for partners who want to resell Veeam licenses directly to customers.

VCSP (Veeam Cloud & Service Provider) is for partners who want to offer Veeam as a managed service with rental licensing and monthly usage reporting.

Why do we need Microsoft 365 backup if Microsoft already stores the data?

Under the shared responsibility model, Microsoft runs the service but you own protection, retention and recovery.

VDC simplifies it with unlimited storage and fast granular restores.

How does VDC help with ransomware recovery?

Immutable backups, bulk restore and rapid, targeted recoveries to minimize downtime and data loss.

Can we choose the storage region for data sovereignty?

Yes. Choose cloud regions to align with your data residency and compliance requirements.

How is pricing structured?

Per‑user plans with bundle savings when protecting both Microsoft 365 and Entra ID.

All M365 users must be protected; Entra ID covered within the 3x FUP example.

How quickly can we get started?

VDC is SaaS: log in via a browser, set policies and start backups.

We can help import users and align retention and security settings on day one.

What Microsoft 365 workloads are protected?

Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Entra ID - covering emails, files, sites, team conversations and directory objects.

Since October 2025, add also Azure protection via Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft Azure, including Azure VMs, Managed Disks, Azure Files, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Virtual Networks and Azure Blob, with full- and file-level restore.

Does Microsoft 365 already back up my data?

Although the market perception is shifting, it is still a common misconception to think that Microsoft automatically backs up all your Microsoft 365 data inherently within the cloud service you purchased.

Microsoft provides great resiliency and built-in tools for all types of capabilities, but they do not provide a comprehensive backup solution within Microsoft 365 plans.

There is a Microsoft 365 Shared Responsibility between what is provided within the Cloud Service, and the responsibility of organizations to protect their own Microsoft 365 data.

What is the standard retention policy in Microsoft 365?

Retention for deleted Office 365 data can vary by the application. For instance, an Exchange Online mailbox keeps deleted items for 14 days by default, but this setting can be changed up to 30 days. When using the SharePoint Online application within a browser, items deleted are retained in the Recycle Bin for 93 days from the time of deletion.

When an employee leaves an organization, their Microsoft account can be removed. Their user data will be deleted after 30 days and will no longer be available unless you have that data saved in a backup solution.

It’s worth noting that retention policies can take time to set up correctly, and data loss can and does occur due to human error during retention policy configuration. So, it’s vital to have a backup of Microsoft 365 data as an insurance policy.

How should I choose between plans of Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365?

For the strongest data protection capabilities, first look at Premium. It provides the best mix of flexibility and control over backups and restores combined with speed and scale.

If you decide not to protect all your users with Premium, we still recommend using Premium to protect your “top users”, e.g. Managers and above, finance, operations, HQ employees.

Whether you choose Flex or Express for your remaining users depends on your risk tolerance.

If you value granular restores and customizable backup capabilities to meet low RPOs, you will find Flex to be the right solution.

If your priority is fast backup times and ransomware protection, then you will find Express to be a better solution.

Is unlimited storage included for every user?

Veeam provides a Fair Use Policy designed to ensure fair and reasonable use of the Services by Veeam under the Veeam Data Cloud Service Agreement.
